New particle fits description of elusive Higgs boson, scientists say

Scientists said Wednesday that they had discovered a new particle whose characteristics match those of the Higgs boson, the most sought-after particle in physics, which could help unlock some of the universe's deepest secrets.

"We have reached a milestone in our understanding of nature," said Rolf Heuer, the director general of the European Organization for Nuclear Research, which has been carrying out experiments in search of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's largest particle accelerator.

"The discovery of a particle consistent with the Higgs boson opens the way to more detailed studies, requiring larger statistics, which will pin down the new particle's properties, and is likely to shed light on other mysteries of our universe," Heuer said.

Somebody basically assist to make critically posts I would state. This is the initial time I frequented your internet page and thus far? I surprised using the study you made to make this particular publish extraordinary. Excellent occupation! 萬用行動電源 http://www.powerbanktech.com

'Eureka! we have found something that no one can see touch or feel! We spent billions researching something invisible, and we found it! It was worth the investment, we have decided not to spend this enormous amount of free money given to us on feeding the extreme hungry, or fixing what is wrong with the world, no instead we have chosen to find something that is completely invisible! "

A lot of the comments are so short sighted. Thank goodness you people aren't in charge of anything.

I agree with your post in that there are a ton of problems we need to address. This news may seem totally abstract and worthless (especially given the amount of money poured into the research), but believe the scientists when they say this is important. They really wouldn't be doing all this if there wasn't a good reason.

We just don't know what this will lead to, and whether it will "pay off". But that's what we thought about electricity, X-rays, uranium, microwaves, etc. etc...until we understand these phenomena, we don't know the practical applications...many of which change humanity forever.

Give them a few more years and we might see a practical application of this...maybe it's a new energy source? That would shake things up and cure some problems...

Progression and further understanding of the universe around us-and you think that's a bad thing? And you misunderstand much of what this means.

The God Particle is a wonderful thing Europe has invested in and made. This will put Europe scientist in very good postion in the world, but to use this energy for so many different things seems like it will come with a cost. Nothing is free in this world. We need research the Stars and other planets, we need to be able to travel at light speed. We need Science and Occult to come together and help the human race. Billions of people on this world, and more are being born everyday, food supplies will deplete, water will deplete and get polluted, garbage will increase, this is the human way. How can we improve this?

Hahahah..Europe didn't invent this particle. They are claiming to have found something that theoretically has the properties of it. Just like many have claimed that they saw something that looks like a UFO, or big foot, or cold fusion. It is junk science to claim you have found anything so soon after an experiment when the data could mean any number of results. There is more work to do before any claims can be made. The whole thing smacks of Monty Python. " If she weighs as much as a duck she is a witch."

how did this become a topic about what america needs to do..... and by the way the reason europe made the discover is our lack of solid science and math education in our schools.... welfare and foriegn aid have nothing to do with that...

lets make free energy and go to the stars. lets make a america on another planet and leave the rest to fend for them selves

Very noble indeed, until one realizes America is built on stolen land, and you are suggesting steeling land from another. Where ever there is an exploit the greedy are sure go. Why don't we just get rid of the greedy? Live in peace right here on the land we know? Sure we have a right to defend our land, but so do they!

Remember that it was Europeans that intially stole the lands of America – we just stole it from Europe and expandid west.

No...what america needs is to take care of its own....homeless....veterans...jobs...etc...science aint going nowhere...I dont see science on the top ten things that need to be fixed in this country...it can wait.

Taking care of Vet's medical needs, research jobs, tech jobs, etc kind of depend on science.

So. There are way more important things to spend Billions on then invisible possibilities. This is shame for the human race. and proves that we care more about things we can't see then the things we know exist and is in needing of desperate help.

america needs more science and technology education and less welfare and foriegn aid handouts to the world and general public.

Umm, you do know many see public schools in America as a branch of welfare right? We need to make sure children grow up with the best education we can give them, and the proper nutrition so they can retrain what they learn. If we do that America once again will be the great nation we pretend it is on the 4th of July.Every American needs a fair shake at life. We can not blame children for what their parents did!
