In an exclusive interview on CNN’s “Starting Point,” bestselling soprano and humanitarian Sarah Brightman discusses her once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to venture into space.
The world famous soprano, who has thrilled audiences on stage in “Phantom of The Opera," is teaming with Space Adventures and the Russian Federal Space Agency (FSA) in Moscow to prepare for a 10-day trip on board the SOYUZ Rocket to the International Space Station.
In order to participate, Brightman was required to travel to Star City in Moscow to undergo intense tests.
“I had to go into a centrifuge...just to sort of keep your self conscious, I had to do math while I was up there. It was an amazing feeling but quite frightening,” Brightman says.

Bravo Sara I love you.
Brava
She is looking rough...
This has been on this page for WEEKS!!!! Change it, already, CNN!
What an incredible waste of money.
Yes I know , and agree, its her money and she can do as she please with it.
I am amused to find, in 2012, that there are still losers, wasting their time on earth, visiting the websites of entertainers, and expecting real people to take them seriously.
Children, get yourselves meaningful work and perhaps a life.
CNN, thanks for the opportunity to stir the pot. Pete.
Translates to, "Im not the 'Tremendous Fan' I thought I was"
Take care, on earth and wherever else you roam too...
Well, you're here Sir.That Sir make you a hyporcrite. You must be conditioned on Faux News?
I am a tremendous fan of Sarah Brightman. But, really, couldn't she apply herself to updating her song portfolio? How about some new music?
Sarah, I really love you, but you need to apply yourself. Pete.
Haha do you really consider yourself a "tremendous fan"? If you were, you would have already known about her new song (which is also a free download on her website!) and the fact that she has a new album coming out in a few months.
Apply yourself Pete!
If you are such a "big fan" you might wanna go sign up at her website like the rest of us "big fans" so you can keep up .... just a suggestion. But you'll never get "Im your biggest fan" status for berating her on a post she will never read when you dont even know what the heck is going on.... SMH
In Space, no one can hear you Sing.....
i can think of more "artists" who should be fired into space on giant fireworks...
Had NO idea she was british. And I'm an opera singer. Holy God do I live under a rock.
Outside Earth's atmosphere astronauts get bombarded with cosmic radiation & solar flares. 10 days exposure to that, no thanks.
You know Guest, these people have no business going into space. Remember the Challenger. Teacher in Space. First joke to come of that was what was the Teacher in space last words? "What's this button for?"
does one need to be an artist to be in space? i am an artist and i am in space, i mean in limbo heheh
ground contro2 to major tom. take your protein pill and put your helmet onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
At last, the times which general public can go to space have come!! If we have money, we can go anywhere. But human trip to space may cause space pollution. So we have to pay attention not to make same attention that we did in the earth.
Actually, space is already polluted with dangerous debris and toxic materials from 40 years of space missions and satellites, and this is not the first time a civilian has been into space. She's the 3rd one I think to the ISS. =)
If you've got the money, you have a ticket to just about anywhere!
Commerical space contracts for Russians keeps those scientists & engineers gainfully employed, where they could drift off and do other things directly counter to the interests of the United States. And people get to go to near space in trade...it's a win-win.
No kidding, with all the money she paid...could have helped thousands of needy people. I realise it is a free world, she can do whatever...but seriously, seems selfish. If you want a week out of orbit, go visit Keith Richards.
I agree your opinion. I think that before use 200 millions yen to realization her dream, she should use money to save poor people in the world.
If you have no aspirations, no desire to achieve that's ok. If you do and you suddenly found yourself successful please remember this comment and give your money away. However since people who support socialism, communists step child, would rather not be successful they would rather live off of others where a true compassionate capitalist would rather all have the opportunity to achieve.
If you watch the video, it says that she didn't pay relatively much towards the trip. The money being payed is mostly from sponsors. So don't blame her for being rich and spending it on herself.
That kind of comment gets made a lot, and it is always wrong. Do you have a nice TV, or an automatic dishwasher? Do you own the computer you're posting from? How about a cell phone? These are all luxuries – you don't need any of them. By your argument, you're as guilty as this singer, since surely the money you spent on these luxuries could have gone to a more worthy cause and helped many unfortunate people.
When you live with only the necessities and give 100% of your excess to help the poor, then you've earned the right to complain about how other people spend their money.
Apparently she made the cash to afford this but if promoters are charging $100 or more for nosebleed seats to her concerts, I decline.
I hope you can buy nosebleed seats ticket!!
Another lost soul giving 50 million dollars to the Russians. Sarah you should be ashamed of yourself. I will never again in my life, purchase any music in which you perticipated in any way or form, nor attend another concert of yours.
Right now...There's only one train leaving the station. Who cares where the train was made?
I don't think she'll notice if you don't buy anything.
Good argument. Now go fill up your tank with gas from those Arabs the U.S. hates so much
Im sure she would have much preferred to ride on the cadillac of space flight... The NASA Space Shuttle... Ohh whats that you say???? its sitting in a museum.... ok well guess its the Kia or the Hundai then.... *roll eyes*
That is possibly the most random headline I have ever seen!
