5 must have NASA apps

Last week, Light Years wrote about NASA Visualization Explorer , a new, free Earth science app developed by the Goddard Space Flight Center. Currently, NASA Viz is only available for iPad.

Here’s a look at 5 other must-have NASA apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android that are all available for free:

1. NASA App
For iPhone, iPad, and Android
The official app for NASA, which has become recently available on Android, contains stunning images, videos, and news about NASA missions, as well as a live stream of NASA TV and a list of Twitter accounts.

2. NASA Television
For iPhone and iPad
The NASA Television app delivers a live feed of NASA programming to your iPhone or iPad. The app also contains an “On Demand” feature that allows the user to watch recent uploads.

3. AstroApp: Space Shuttle Crew
For iPhone and iPad
This app includes an alphabetical and searchable list of every astronaut who was a member of the Space Shuttle crew, as well as a list of all missions.

4. 3D Sun
For iPhone and iPad
This app delivers a global, 3-dimensional view of the sun that allows a user to monitor solar activity. It is also accompanied by a gallery of images and news.

5. Space Images
For iPhone, iPad, and Android
From NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Space Images app showcases tons of images and videos taken by spacecraft studying planets, stars, the Earth, and more. You can even save the images as backgrounds or wallpapers on your device. Examples include images of dwarf plants and a video of the asteroid Vesta making a full rotation.
