Every Friday, @CNNLightYears will suggest interesting and exciting space and science Twitter accounts to follow.
Today, @CNNLightYears is giving a #FollowFriday to some of our favorite science museums and centers. The best part about Twitter is that if you are too far to make the visit, you can always keep up with the latest news and exhibits wherever you are.
The California Science Center, which is located in Los Angeles, is a large museum that will soon house the retired space shuttle Endeavour. The shuttle will arrive no earlier than summer 2012, and @casciencecenter is tweeting about it.
The Exploratorium, located in San Francisco, describes itself as "a museum of science, art, & human perception." The @exploratorium has hundreds of explore-for-yourself exhibits that it tweets about.
The Carnegie Science Center, one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, PA, is home to an OMNIMAX theater and tons of interesting exhibits including roboworld, the world's largest permanent robotics exhibition.
The American Museum of Natural History, located in New York, NY, is renowned for its exhibitions and scientific collections. Follow @AMNH for tweets about special exhibits, such as The World's Largest Dinosaurs.
The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum and research complex and includes 19 museums and galleries, nine research centers, and the National Zoo. Read more about the @Smithsonian museums on Twitter in this previous #FollowFriday post.
The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago is the Western Hemisphere’s largest science museum, according to its Twitter bio. It is home to the Henry Crown Space Center, which contains amazing artifacts such as the Apollo 8 spacecraft and the Apollo 11 training mock-up remain.
The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia is named after Benjamin Franklin and has authentic artifacts used in the discovery of electricity.
We have included the official account of the Science Museum on our list of favorite go-to accounts for science news and discoveries and had to include it as one of our favorite museums. The @sciencemuseum, which is located in London, tweets about its world renowned collection and amazing exhibits.
