Terminated scientist claims bias against intelligent design

By Stan Wilson, CNN

Los Angeles (CNN) – A former veteran systems administrator for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory claimed during opening arguments in a civil lawsuit Tuesday that he was wrongfully terminated for expressing his views on intelligent design.

David Coppedge, who spent 15 years on the Cassini Mission, one of NASA and JPL's most ambitious planetary space explorations, asserts that he was unlawfully fired under his employer's anti-harassment and ethics policies. JPL contends Coppedge created a hostile workplace while expressing his religious views with co-workers.

His suit also claims that supervisors wrongly admonished him for distributing DVD documentary films titled "Unlocking the Mystery of Life" and "The Privileged Planet," which present biological and cosmological explanations for intelligent design, according to the complaint.

Fired for expressing your views shouldn't happen, unless you work at Apple and say how much better the Android OS is! Annoy people enough with "your" religious views and you should expect to be on the chopping block. If he was infact creating a hostile work environment with his views on ID, then he should have shutup. The problem I find is religious people can't seem to shutup with what they believe is correct, even though most religious people disagree on what is correct. You people that go around preaching about a God of Love, why don't you try living it instead of trying to convince everyone that your belief is correct and theirs is wrong? Maybe you should look at the evidence one day for old earth Evolution instead of bashing it. Contrary to most religious belief systems scientists are not as stupid and God hating as you think they are. Reading two chapters in a book thousands of years old does not give you all the answers. BTW, i spent 17 years of my life as right wing conservative fanatic sold out to God, and then one day I actually started to look at the evidence; enough said.

Evolution is something provable. ID is not. Biased? I think not but he shouldn't have been fired for it.

Leave your political and religious philosophy at home. No one has the right to preach non-work related ideology during my working hours. Besides, Cassini was a government funded interplanetary project and had no relationship to universal design, be it intelligent or random in nature.
